Network Management

After system installation, the network is configured either by /usr/sbin/setup, a menu driven procedure that allows system component configuration, or by /usr/sbin/netsetup, the network configuration utility.
Internet domain service is configured by /usr/sbin/bindsetup that describes NIS management at file level as stated by /etc/svc.conf. Database configuration described in /etc/svc.conf is managed by /usr/sbin/svcsetup. All system setup utilities are described in the related man pages.

Network boot file /sbin/init.d/inet performs network startup according to the /sbin/ifconfig definitions. Host IP address and parameters are stored in file
/etc/rc.config. A guide to parameter setup is given in the worksheet

/usr/examples/network_configuration/worksheet.ps

The network is started, restarted and/or stopped by the script /usr/sbin/rcinet with the required option.
Network management files are:

/etc/hosts
/etc/named/hosts.db
/etc/named/hosts.rev
/etc/named/named.ca
/etc/named/named.local
/etc/named/named.boot
/etc/rc.config
/etc/resolv.conf
/etc/svc.conf
/var/adm/sendmail/sendmail.cf
