globus-job-run Command

globus-job-run is the basic tool to run a remote command in a grid environment. The remote command runs interactively provided that the user certificate is already active.

In grid data handling globus-job-run is used to query the amount of free disk space of the file systems mounted on the SE, as shown in the example, where mySE.mysite.infn.it is the SE name.

$ globus-job-run mySE.mysite.infn.it /bin/df -h
The command displays file system space status:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda2 16G 1.2G 14G 8% /
/dev/sda1 38M 3.7M 32M 10% /boot
/dev/sdb1 33G 32G 0 100% /flatfiles
lcfgng.server:/opt/local/linux/6.2
                       36G 18G 16G 53% /export/local/linux/6.2
CE-node:/home 17G 15G 535M 97% /home

dsgridg:/shared/grid 314G 260G 38G 87% /shared
diskserv-cms-1:/CMS3 1066G 383G 682G 36% /shared/cms
In the above example, the file systems mounted by the SE are used for the following tasks:
  1. the SE boot partition, mounted on boot
  2. the SE operating system, mounted on the slash (/) directory
  3. the LVFGng software server file system for applications mounted on /export
  4. the home file system shared with the CE home mount point; the home directory is shared also among the WNs
  5. the SE common areas shared among VOs and mounted on /flatfiles and /shared
Each VO owns a subdirectory in the shared file system, i.e. /shared/VO1/, /shared/VO2/ etc.
  6. any other file system. In the example one VO mounts a dedicated file system
Note that at present there is no quota or accounting tool to grant dedicated space to the VOs that have space assigned in the shared file system.
