Changes and New Features

This Section reports a summary of changes and new features supported by EDG2 and LCG1, without making any distinction between the two platforms. All items are described from the user point of view. The most relevant changes regard:

The most relevant differences refer to SE Data Management. The users may store personal data on any allowed SE and register data in a Replica Catalogue, thus allowing multiple copies of data and improving data access at CE level by optimizing the data transfer speed (Close SE concept).

With EDG2.0 and LCG-1 there are several catalogues (RLS) that are handled as virtual disks. In this way data may be collected by context, i.e. one RLS per VO, or one RLS per project, etc. The default RLS is defined at WN level. Configuration files allow access to different user requested RLS. The main difference between EDG2 and LCG-1 is the Information Service that is R-GMA for the former and MDS for the latter.
