Deleting PBS/Maui Jobs

You can delete jobs using the commands:
qdel Job-Id using PBS command
canceljob Job-Id using Maui command
In case of problems you may trace the job that you want to remove with:
showq -r list running jobs to retrieve job identifier
tracejob Job-Id trace job activity

To manually delete a stale job which has no process, and for which the mother superior is still alive, use the momctl command (if present) or use the following procedure:

  1. shutdown the MOM on the mother superior node
  2. delete all files and directories related to the job from /var/spool/pbs/server_priv/jobs
  3. restart the MOM on the mother superior node.

If the mother superior MOM is lost and cannot be recovered (e.g. hardware or disk failure), a job running on that node can be purged from the output of qstat using the following steps:

  1. shutdown the pbs_server (qterm -t quick)
  2. remove job spool files:
    rm /var/spool/pbs/server_priv/jobs/46923.bogri.SC
    rm /var/spool/pbs/server_priv/jobs/46923.bogri.JB
  3. restart the pbs_server:
    # service pbs_server start
