 > Welcome to ATLAS-RPC Bologna

ATLAS is a particle physics experiment that will take data at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. It will deeply explore the nature of matter and the basic forces and symmetries of nature. The ATLAS detector will search for new discoveries in the head on collisions of protons of unprecedented high energy. ATLAS is one of the largest collaborative efforts ever attempted in the physical sciences. There are 1800 physicists (including 400 students) participating from more than 150 universities and laboratories in 34 countries.

The RPC system is the triggering component of the barrel part of the ATLAS Muon Spectrometer .

The RPC-group of the INFN and University of Bologna is involved in:

  • RPC : detector test and commissioning.
  • Physics Analysis: high pt physics.
  • Computing.
