VISA - People coming from European Economic Area, as well as from USA, Canada, Israel do not need a Visa. Here you can find the list of country where a Visa is requested . All the information are in the official site of the Italian Embassy.

Hotels - For the conference, a number of rooms in these hotels , in Bologna centre, were reserved.

Climate - At the end of April, the temperature in Bologna is from 15 up to 25 degree Celsius at daytime. Weather in Bologna.


Money - The currency is the italian Lira, 1 Euro is 1936.27 Lire. Currency Converter.
Banks are generally open from 8.30-13.30 and 14.30-15.30 on weekdays but are closed on Saturday and Sunday.


Tourist Office - The main office is on the western side of Piazza Maggiore (phone 051 239660). It is open Monday to Saturday from 9 to 7 pm and Sunday to 1 pm. Others office are at the train station and airport.

Public telephones can be found everywhere and accept 100, 200, 500 coins and magnetic telephone cards.
The prepaid "telephone cards" are available at station kiosks, convenience stores, vending machines next to the telephones, etc.. The cards are available in values of 5000 Lit. and 10000 Lit. Be careful: different companies (Telecom, Omnitel) have different public telephones which accept only their own card.
Emergency and Medical Services -
For police emergency call, 112-113. For an ambulance or for reporting a fire call 118. You do not need to insert any money into public telephones to call these numbers.

The "Farmacia dalla Maddalena" at via Zamboni 62 operates 24 hours a day. The pharmacy at the train station is open until 11 pm on weeknights. Chemist's shops.

Gastronomy -  Bologna people are serious about food and fussy about their pasta. The best pasta is "tirata a mano", hand stretched and rolled with a wooden pin, not a machine. It is cooked in many ways and eaten with a multitude of sauces. Try  "tagliatelle" with  meat sauce "ragu'".
Mortadella, known sometimes as Bologna sausage or baloney, hails form the area.

The city has many good bars and osterias, where you can get cheap drinks and snacks.
You can shop at the vast Mercato Ugo Bassi (Delle Erbe), Via Ugo Bassi 27, or the daily produce market just east of Piazza Maggiore, centred on speciality food shops along Via De Fusari, Via Drapperie, Via Marchesana, Via Clavature, Via Pescherie Vecchie.
