Such a time resolution could help in several fields, from particle&nbsp; (PID, Calorimetry) to medical (TOF-PET) Physics; even more, a precise time measurement will become necessary for the next generation of colliders in high energy physics (like HL-LHC and FCC) to deal with unprecedented number of interactions for each beam collision.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Local Activity<\/strong>: This activity has already begun thanks to the ALICE project, with the study of MRPC (Multigap Resistive Plate Chamber) gas detectors and is going on both with a further study of these detectors and by moving towards the study of ultra-fast silicon detectors. In particular, both silicon photodetectors SiPM (Silicon PhotoMultiplier) (since 2012), coupled with plastic scintillators, and UFSD (Ultra Fast Silicon Detector) detectors (since 2015), based on LGAD (Low Gain Avalanche Detector) technology, are under investigation.
