How to reach Bologna

by plane

The Bologna G.Marconi airport (BLQ) has direct international connections ( flight timetable ) and is located at about 5 Km from the city centre.

One way trip by TAXI to the centre of the city (i.e. to the conference venue or to the Phys. Dept. or to your favourite hotel) takes about 15 minutes and costs about Euro 20,00.

The airport is connected to Bologna railway station by a regular BUS service (Aerobus), with departures every 15 minutes. The travel takes about 20 minutes and costs 4,50 Euro (tickets on the bus). The service starts at 6.00 and stops at 11:35 pm from the airport (respectively 5:25 and 23:10 from the railway station).

by train

The "Bologna Centrale" railway station is close to the city central area, of which the University buildings and also the conference venue are part. The station is well connected to the national ( FS time-tables ) and international network ( SBB-CHF-FFS time-tables ) From the station to the centre it takes about 15 minutes walking or about 5 minutes by taxi (about 10,00 Euro).

by car

From Milan: Motorway A1. (Italian Motorway Sensitive-Map) . When approaching Bologna, turn right following the "tangenziale" sign. Turn right again and pay at the barrier. Take the direction "tangenziale" (on your left after the barrier). Keep going "STRAIGHT" up to the bifurcation Padova(left)-Firenze(right). Take the direction for Ancona-Padova and keep following the "tangenziale" up to exit number 5 (Lame). Exit. At the traffic light turn left in direction "centro citta'". To reach the conference venue follow the signs to "CENTRO CITTA'" ( map ). From Geneva: through the Mont Blanc tunnel to Morgex, and there follow the GREEN indications for accessing the motorway to Milan.

by long-range bus

Bologna has a very efficient service of national and international long-range bus connections, in particular from northern and eastern Europe. It is considerably cheaper than train.

Bologna in middle March has a variable climate. The average diurnal temperature ranges from 5 to 17 C.

Prices in hotels and restaurants, and taxi fares as well, are calculated to include taxes and service. A tip is therefore at the customer's discretion.

Opening hours

Banks: Monday - Friday, 9.00 am - 1.15 pm and 3.00 - 4.00 pm (closed on Saturday and Sunday). Shops: Monday - Saturday, 9 am - 12.30 am and 3.30 -7.30 pm. (closed all day on Sunday, and on Thursday afternoon (most) or Monday morning (some)).
