In 1997 he was appointed Run Coordinator of the experiment. In the late 1990s he contributed to the development of a scintillating fiber calorimeter for the CNGS beam. He moved to Bologna in 2002 to participate in the construction of the ALICE TOF, coordinating its first level trigger. In 2008, as CERN Scientific Associate he was appointed ALICE Deputy Commissioning Coordinator and became member of its Technical Board. At the start of the data taking, he became member of the ALICE Physics Board, convener of the forward physics working group (2012 – 2014) and of the minimum bias physics (2016 -2017).
In the period 2009-2016 he was coordinator of the INFN group III at the Bologna division.
In 2016 he joined the DarkSide collaboration: leader of the Bologna group, coordinator of the photoelectronic system (2017-2018) and Project Leader of the DS-20k detector (2018-2019).
