Thesis opportunities in ALICE
The ALICE group offers Master Degree theses on the physics of ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. The theses concern the study of the production of both light-flavour hadrons (transverse momentum spectra of identified particles and hadronic resonances) and heavy flavous, with particular reference to the study of charmed baryons and mesons. Other theses concern the study of the mechanisms behaind the formation of light nuclei in these collisions, which are relevant also for dark-matter searches. It is forseen to make use of machine-learning techniques in many of these analyses. There is also the possibility for theses on topics more directly related to experimental equipments, such as the characterisation of silicon sensors to be used in the upgrade of the ALICE vertex detector and the development of silicon sensors with excellent timing performance.
