Virtual Private Network
A VPN service based on OpenVPN is available for INFN users in Bologna. It allows authenticated and private remote access to the LAN.
Users who connect from another site (through the LAN of the site) or from home via ISP can be recognized by the authentication system of the VPN server and access the services of the Bologna Section as if they were directly connected to the LAN.
For authentication you must use * ONLY * your NATIONAL/AAI credential.
Access to this service simply requires authentication managed by a software package available for Windows, Linux, MAC and an App for supported tablets and smartphones.
Verify that outgoing traffic from your client is allowed on TCP port 443 (personal fw, iptables or outgoing router).
NB: Only the traffic towards the INFN-BO subnets will be routed from the laptop to the VPN while all the rest of the traffic will continue to transit towards the router of the remote office or ISP to which you are connected.
Instructions for installing and configuring the OpenVPN client
NB: in case of reconfiguration of the OpenVPN client, make sure you have removed the references to the previous installation of the Bologna VPN (INFN_BO)
