Thesis opportunities in EIC

 

The Bologna EIC group offers thesis for Bachelor Degree and Master Degree in Physics in view of the experimentation at the future Electron-Ion Collider. The thesis topics concern studies for the characterisation of the Ring-Imaging Cherenkov (RICH) detector for particle identification at the EIC and include

  • firstly the characterisation and evaluation of the performance of SiPM sensors for the detection of single fotons
  • and aspects related to the study of the detector-system performance via Monte Carlo simulations

The group is in particular involved in the validation for the usage of silicon SiPM sensors for RICH applications at the EIC and the programme foresees

  • the study and characterisation of the performance of SiPM sensor before and after irradiation with ionising particles
  • the usage of the same SiPM sensors in a RICH detector prototype which is under development for a beam test in 2021.
