TIMESPOT – TIME and SPace real-time Operating Tracker
Local Coordinator: Alessandro Gabrielli
National Coordinator: Adriano Lai (Ca)
Research Units: Bo, Ca, Fe, Fi, Mi, Pd, Pg, TiFPA, To, Ge
Duration: 2018-2020
Local Group: Alfonsi Fabrizio, Carbone Angelo, Demarchi Danilo, Ferrari Fabio, Giangiacomi Nico, Perazzini Stefano, Sbarra Carla, Sidoti Antonio, Vagnoni Vincenzo Maria
Project general purpose: TIMESPOT aims at building a vertex detector demonstrator (≈1000 channels and 4 or 5 layer) with spacial resolution in the order of 10 µm and pixel time-resolution better than 100 ps (final targer ≈ 30ps). The sensor will withstand radiation fluences up to 1016 1 MeV neq/cm2, and the readout chip 1 Grad. In addition, algorithms for online track reconstruction and fast readout (bandwidth > 1 TB/s) will be developed.
Local activities: the Bologna Group is mainly involved in the development of fast tracking algorithms at FE level and in the readout electronics. In addition, software simulation and implementation of the chosen algorithms in commercial FPGA circuitry will be pursued.
