AFS Client installation

The Computing and Network Service usually installs AFS client on the following platforms:

  • On Linux systems, the Open Source version OpenAFS is installed
  • Windows operating systems (italian version only, internal access or via VPN)
  • MacOS (italian version only, internal access or via VPN)

What is AFS

  • AFS (Andrew File System) is a distributed file system that allows file sharing over the network.
  • Access is regulated through a kerberos authentication system and ACL (Access Control List) on files.
  • Authentication is distributed between three national servers:
    • Cnaf: afs1.infn.it
    • Roma1: afs2.infn.it 
    • Naples: afs3.infn.it
