Personal protective equipment -D.P.I

Personal protective equipment -D.P.I .
conduct

In section the Personal Protective Equipment (D.P.I.) are managed according to the considerations and procedures below.

Remember that the D.P.I. required by law, that is, necessary to lower risks that cannot otherwise be eliminated, and managed; the non-Mandatory are not adopted due to the presence of a risk and can be unmanaged;

Please also note that these devices are all for individual use, but in some cases – for example welding shanks, steel mesh gloves etc. – can be used by several people.

The processes carried out by the Section’s services and experimental groups are the most varied, and require the use of the most diverse materials and equipment; in most cases then each of them is carried out for a limited period of time, in connection with the construction of a particular experimental apparatus, which is produced at most in very few specimens.

In these conditions it is not generally efficient to schedule the purchase with certain frequencies of given quantities of particular PPE; rather the Service or Group Manager entrusted with processing within a project, having acknowledged the suggestions of the staff who are employed there and with the assistance of the SPP, identifies which PPE should be used and purchases them in the necessary quantities.

The identified PPE can be mandatory or not.

The Service or Group Manager must notify the personnel employed in a process in writing of the PPE of mandatory use, if necessary must provide training for their use, and must supervise the use of the same. Workers are informed of their legal obligations (Article 78 of Legislative Decree 81/2008) regarding the management of devices. As compulsory PPE is not available, the related processes are suspended.

Personal mandatory PPE are delivered to individual workers who sign a receipt; as regards the disposal, the workers, upon expiry or when they are no longer properly functional due to wear, must return the devices for delivery for disposal, which are replaced.
Non-compulsory PPE are used to make the work related to processing more comfortable, which in any case can proceed even if they are not temporarily available; are distributed on request.

The most used PPE are listed below, in relation to the types of activities most frequently carried out in Section:
Headphones for hearing protection
Protective glasses against x-rays, lasers, infrared, visible, ultraviolet
Splash and splash protection glasses
Arc welding masks
Dust masks
Activated carbon masks
Facial masks with filter for activities in the “nuclear detectors” laboratory (see chemical risk assessment)
Gloves against mechanical aggression
Latex gloves for handling irritating or harmful substances
Welding aprons
Workshop safety shoes

Especially in some Services, alongside the very varied activities related to the different projects, some types of “basic” processes are carried out continuously over time, which are repeated in almost all construction processes. It would be useless to re-identify the PPE to be used in these processes for each project, so the latter are defined by the Service Manager in relation to the aforementioned processes and must be used whenever they enter a particular production process.
The above typically occurs in the Workshop Service; please note that, among others, the following personal PPE are mandatory in the activities listed alongside.
